Jamie Carragher accuses £25m Chelsea player of being ‘scared of the ball’ after Liverpool defeat

Chelsea came up short on their trip to Anfield today as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners and Jamie Carragher has slammed one Blues star following the game.

The Blues had got themselves back into the game through Nicolas Jackson but Curtis Jones rounded off a fine performance by netting the winner.

Indeed, Jones won plenty of praise from Carragher for his efforts in the Liverpool midfield.

However, the same cannot be said for one of Chelsea’s main men, who Carragher has accused of being scared of the ball.

Speaking about the performance of Sanchez on , Carragher questioned the commitment of the Chelsea stopper when it comes to keeping the ball out.

“What I don’t like is that when he goes, he’s turning his face. It’s almost like he is scared that he is going to be hit by the ball,” Carragher said.

“You go back to Peter Schmeichel when he came out and made himself as big as possible. He comes out to Curtis Jones, Curtis Jones should be absolutely terrified that a keeper is coming towards me, he is 6ft 4 in, he is coming on top of him.

“He is like scared of the ball and Curtis Jones, and he is turning his head away. You have got to get there and hopefully it hits you in the face and keep it out.”

Chelsea need better than Robert Sanchez

For all the money Chelsea have spent in the last few windows, they don’t really have a world-class goalkeeper and unfortunately, Robert Sanchez may end up getting replaced.

Chelsea still paid for the former Brighton man but sometimes, a club needs to splash the big bucks on certain positions.

With Chelsea, they’ll be looking at someone like City or Liverpool with Ederson and Alisson and thinking that’s the level they need to achieve in goal.

Sanchez, then, will have to step things up a notch or two if he is to cement himself as a top goalkeeper in a top four chasing team.
