Saul Niguez moving to Manchester City could open door for emotional Leeds return for Fabian Delph

Manchester City could be set to secure the transfer of midfielder Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid,

the deal will be worth £68.5 million and the Spain international is edging closer to the Etihad Stadium.

The deal will see City land another world-class talent, whilst it will probably push some players closer to the exit door.

One of those players could be England international Fabian Delph.

The 29-year-old has been restricted to just 12 starts this season, struggling to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Given his age, it seems unlikely that he will stick around at the club to kick his heels on the sidelines.

That should be alerting Leeds United, especially if they go on and win promotion to the Premier League.

Back in June 2018, Delph spoke to the about his regrets over such a short career at Elland Road.

Delph started his career in West Yorkshire playing 58 games and scoring six goals before joining Aston Villa.

last summer indicate that he would perhaps welcome the chance to return at some point.

Delph is on a reported £90k-a-week at City , so for any possible deal to take place Leeds would need to win promotion as a minimum requirement.

The man with 18 England caps would be a sound addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad if they reach the top-flight.

The transfer fee probably wouldn’t break the bank. As a result, Leeds would get themselves a superb player who offers 169 Premier League appearances.

News of Niguez’s arrival in Manchester could just open the door for an emotional return to Leeds for Delph.
