Sandro Tonali shares who his best ‘friend’ at Newcastle has been this past 10 months

Newcastle may not be making many moves on the transfer front but it looks as if they’re about to get one of their main men back.

Sandro Tonali was handed a ban from competitive football for ten months, as effective from Friday 27th October 2023.

And, he finally looks set to return to Eddie Howe’s squad for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.

This will come as a big boost for the Newcastle fans who still have a sour taste in their mouths after their side’s terrible performance against Bournemouth last time out.

In what was a troubling time for Sandro Tonali he’s now revealed who helped him the most over the past 10 months, and the name may surprise you…

Sandro Tonali shares who has been his best friend at Newcastle this past 10 months

Tonali gave an interview on yesterday and was asked about how things have gone these past 10 months. Here’s what he had to say.

“Eddie, the gaffer, is the first friend in Newcastle from 10 month until now. It’s everyday I spoke with him. I spoke with staff when I had some problem.

“I spoke with him, I call him everyday, every time before training and after training. The same of normal people in a bar (saying he speaks to Howe as if he’s someone in a bar).

“So I like him because he’s really simple”.

It’s very refreshing to hear that Howe has made himself available for Tonali and clearly still included him in the day-to-day runnings of things at Newcastle, which will stand him in great stead for his return.

Where does Tonali fit in now at Newcastle?

It may not be good news for Sean Longstaff now the Italian is back, as Newcastle have predominantly gone with a midfield three of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Longstaff during his ban.

Having signed for £53 million last summer, Howe will be desperate to make up for lost time on the midfielder as the Magpies look to get back to winning ways. However, having been out of competitive football for around 10 months, he may be a bit rusty to start off with.

Over the past 10 months the Tyneside club have had Tonali on his own improvement plan. One source at the club even said he now has the most powerful shot at Newcastle.

Newcastle fans won’t care how he performs tonight, as just seeing him back in the black and white stripes will be enough. Afterall, we’ve already seen he can do it in the Premier League.
