Sandro stunned after hearing what Tim Sherwood has said about £39m Tottenham player

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Raniere has been left stunned by Tim Sherwood’s criticism of Pedro Porro.

Tim Sherwood has made his views on Pedro Porro evidently clear since the defender completed a switch to Spurs back in January last year.

The former Spurs boss slammed Porro on his debut back in February, labelling him as ‘so bad it’s unbelievable’ after a shaky performance at Leicester City.

Porro didn’t shy away from responding and told that Sherwood ‘won’t be the first who then had to shut his mouth’ just a month later.

Sherwood has since doubled down on his criticism of Porro and claimed the Spaniard simply can’t defend.

And Sandro Raniere has admitted that he cannot understand why Sherwood slammed Porro on his Premier League debut a year ago.

Sandro baffled by Sherwood’s comments on Porro

Speaking on , Sandro admitted that he was keen for Spurs to snap up Porro before the Spaniard joined from Sporting CP last year.

The Brazilian was then asked about Sherwood’s recent comments on the defender.

“I’m happy because I said to you [about Spurs signing Porro],” Sandro said. “I said he can go, he can attack but he needs to improve a little on the defending because the Premier League is difficult. You’ve got those wingers and strikers who can hit you.

“But the first game and Tim Sherwood said… ah why man? I don’t understand why. It’s his first game man, his first game!”

Sherwood’s recent criticism of Porro was all the more baffling when you consider the fact that the 24-year-old has starred for Spurs this term.

The defensive side of his game has also improved dramatically and he’s taken to that inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s side with ease.

Of course, he can still struggle defensively from time to time and his most recent display at Manchester United was mixed, largely due to the threat of Marcus Rashford.

Nevertheless, Porro continues to provide for Tottenham in the final third and has registered eight assists in the Premier League this term.

We’d have to agree with Sandro’s comments as Sherwood’s initial criticism did feel harsh considering it was Porro’s debut for the club.
