Sandro claimed Krzysztof Piatek was just like Tottenham star Harry Kane in 2018

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on the signing of AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek as a replacement for the injured Harry Kane – and Spurs fans will love what former midfielder Sandro said about Piatek back in 2018.

, Spurs have agreed a £28million fee with Milan to sign 24-year-old Piatek – who has dropped down the pecking order at Milan following the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Pole has failed to replicate his 2018-19 form.

Piatek netted 30 times during 2018-19. He scored 19 for Genoa before earning a move to Milan, where he netted 11 more during the second half of the season. But this time around, he has scored just four goals in 18 games.

However, he is set to move to north London to cover Kane who is out until March at least with a torn hamstring. Former Spurs ace Sandro played alongside Piatek at Genoa, and the Brazilian midfielder compared Piatek to Kane in October 2018.

“Piatek? He resembles Kane. He scores a lot and he is never satisfied. He is hungry just like day one, he knows what he wants,” Sandro said, as quoted by

TBR’s view – Can Piatek be Tottenham’s answer to Kane back-up?

Ever since the rise of Kane, Spurs have struggled with bringing in cover for the England skipper. Vincent Janssen joined the club in the summer of 2016 from AZ Alkmaar, but after six goals in 42 outings, he was shipped to Monterrey in Mexico.

Llorente replaced Janssen but the Spaniard hardly fared better. He scored just 13 goals in 66 games, but it must be said that the 2010 World Cup winner was crucial in the run to the Champions League final last season.

Piatek is different. Janssen struggled with the step up from Eredivisie to Premier League, while Llorente is past his best. A young striker in the mould of Kane will surely give the England man competition, rather than just back-up.
