Samuel Umtiti is the man to get Tottenham challenging for regular silverware
Tottenham Hotspur are without a win during their last four games in all competitions and Jose Mourinho has work to do.
Saturday’s defeat against Liverpool leaves Tottenham eighth, nine points adrift of Chelsea in fourth place.
With the January transfer window now open, Mourinho will almost certainly look towards some new additions.
Gedson Fernandes could be the first to arrive. he is in discussions with Tottenham over an 18-month loan deal, which will become a permanent £40 million transfer in 2021.

Supporters might be undecided on him, however, with the consensus being that other areas are in bigger need of strengthening.
One of those is at centre-back. Spurs have Toby Alderweireld who recently signed a new deal but the other place is up for grabs.
Jan Vertonghen is out of contract in the summer and will probably leave. On Saturday Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga played at centre-back and did relatively well.
During the summer, however, Mourinho will probably look to strengthen. Alderweireld is a mainstay but he could look for a long-term partner possessing world-class qualities.
has reported that Tottenham might be interested in Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has struggled with injuries since signing for Barcelona from Lyon in 2016 and could be allowed to leave.
Stellar signing
It’s fair to say that Tottenham fans would prefer the club to be persuing players boasting world-class quality.
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon arrived in the summer. Although all three look like being good players in the future, none can be considered elite right now.
Umtiti would certainly be considered a signing to take Tottenham to the next level.
The 26-year-old has a release clause of £424 million in his contract but it’s unlikely anyone will pay that sum. If Barcelona do want to get rid of him they will, of course, accept smaller bids.
Umtiti has played just five games in La Liga this season and he doesn’t appear to be in favour.
Since arriving at Camp Nou he has played 106 times for the Catalan giants and if he is deemed surplus Tottenham must consider his signature.

A serial winner like Umtiti would be just the tonic for Mourinho.
He is at the age where he can improve, strong as an ox and capable of playing with the ball at his feet.
Alongside Alderweireld, the £75,000-a-week enforcer could be the man that takes Tottenham to the next level and has them competing to win trophies year upon year.
Last year’s Champions League success looks like a flash in the pan right now.
Spurs need a signing or two to make a statement of intent and Umtiti could be the star attraction to boost the club to the next level.
