‘Same old story’: Alasdair Gold slates Tottenham player for ‘5/10’ display v Sporting
Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Spurs looked on course for a point in Portugal in a game where both sides seemed evenly matched.
Tottenham had 12 efforts, of which five were on target.

However, Antonio Conte’s charges were unable to take their chances, and the hosts made them pay for it.
Sporting substitute Paulinho headed a Pedro Goncalves corner past Hugo Lloris in the final minute of normal time.
Then, Tottenham conceded a second in injury time, confirming their first defeat of the season.
Arthur Gomes cut in from the left and breezed past Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal before slotting a low finish into the corner.
Emerson put in a particularly lacklustre display, earning 4s and 5s in several media outlets’ player ratings pieces.
‘Far too easily’
‘s Alasdair Gold gave the 23-year-old a 5 out of 10 for his performance.
‘Found himself in the box in the first half when a Perisic long throw fell his way but he was falling and couldn’t quite prod it over the keeper,’ he wrote.
‘Early in second half he saw a header and a volley saved by the keeper from Kane balls into this path.
‘Same old story with his attacking bluntness and at the back he was beaten in the air with Kane for Paulinho’s header and then Gomes skipped past with a nutmeg far too easily.’

Likewise, the gave Emerson 5 out of 10.
‘Another frustrating night for the right-back,’ they wrote.
‘Had two good chances come his way just after the break, but couldn’t convert. And then got nutmegged in injury time for the second goal.’
And gave Emerson just 4 out of 10.
‘Had a few chances to open the scoring but was denied by Adan,’ they wrote. ‘Awful defending for Sporting’s second goal.’
