Sam Allardyce responds when asked if he’d want the Everton job
Sam Allardyce that he would be more than happy to return to Everton as manager as they look to try and find their long-term replacement for Rafa Benitez.
The Toffees parted company with the Spaniard at the weekend. It came after Benitez endured a torrid time on Merseyside. The fans never truly accepted him given his connections to Liverpool.

A good start to the Premier League season brought him some time. However, Everton won one league game from the start of October. And defeat to bottom side Norwich proved to be the final straw.
Everton have already been linked with a host of names. Wayne Rooney is an obvious candidate as he continues to impress at Derby. Meanwhile, Lucien Favre has also been mentioned. that Niko Kovac may be in the running.

The next appointment looks to be crucial with Farhad Moshiri. The Everton owner has come in for a lot of criticism. And his failure to find the right person to take the club forward has blighted his tenure.
One of those who he has turned to previously, of course, is Allardyce. The former England boss spent several months at Goodison Park following his appointment in 2017.
‘I would go back’
He did lead the club well away from the bottom three. And ultimately, they finished eighth in the table. However, the style of play did Allardyce few favours.
So Everton fans may not be best pleased to hear Allardyce suggest that he would be happy to come back. He has, however, put another name forward for the post.
“If they wanted me to help them out, then of course, yes I would go back,” . “If it was a long-term move, then I’m not sure that would be right for me – or them.
“Putting the club back in the position finishing eighth, from the position we were in, was pretty good at that time. But I think it is Duncan [Ferguson]’s time – if I can help him in anyway, then of course, I will do that. He is Everton through and through and I think that’s what Everton need.”
Everton fans would not be happy if Allardyce returned ahead of Ferguson
In fairness to Allardyce, his comments suggest that he would be surprised to receive a call. And he has backed Ferguson for the gig.
It would certainly anger a lot of Everton fans if Ferguson was overlooked for Allardyce. Ferguson has done brilliantly whenever he has been needed to take caretaker charge.
The summer may be the best time to consider the long-term strategy. But for now, Ferguson may be the ideal option if Everton’s top targets are unavailable.
