Sam Allardyce questions Everton chief Marcel Brands

Sam Allardyce has suggested that questions should be asked at Everton of their director of football Marcel Brands.

Brands arrived in the 2018 summer and helped appoint current boss Marco Silva, as well as overseeing the club’s transfer activity at Goodison Park.

The Toffees finished eighth last season in the Premier League, but after eight games this season they sit 18th in the top-flight table.

Silva has seen his side fail to make little progress during his time at the club and they have lost four consecutive league games to leave spirits low during the current international break.

Ex-Everton boss Allarydce believes that some of the blame may lie at the door of Brands

“You’ve got to look at the new director of football. Is Marco Silva struggling because he hasn’t recruited all these players? He has been brought in as a big reputation as director of football,”

“You spend all this money and if you don’t spent it the right way it makes the manager’s job harder. I wonder how many of these players Marco Silva actually sanctioned to say they were the ones he wanted.”

TBR’s View:

Brands is doing a strong job behind the scenes at Everton and their activity in the transfer market is strong over the last year, but it’s a slow process of clearing out the deadwood in the squad.

The additions of players like Andre Gomes, Moise Kean, Fabian Delph, Alex Iwobi, Lucas Digne and Richarlison under Brands proves that he has the club moving forward.

But there are still a number of individuals in the club moving forward that should be shown the exit doors and it was always going to take a handful of transfer windows to make a serious impact.

There is enough quality in the side to bounce back after the international break and it will be intriguing to see if fans stick by Silva.
