Sam Allardyce delivers verdict on Antonio Conte appoinment at Tottenham

that Antonio Conte will get Tottenham firing and potentially back into the Premier League’s top four spots.

Conte has penned an 18-month deal until June 2023, with a view to extending that contract by a further season. It is an excellent appointment.

Tottenham fans are certainly delighted to have Conte at the helm, having missed out on the Italian tactician in the summer. He replaces Nuno.

The ex-Chelsea, Inter and Italy boss will take to the dugout on Thursday evening as Spurs take on Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in the ECL.

Asked about the arrival of Conte, Allardyce said that if any manager was going to get Spurs back on track – it is Conte. He says he knows him well.

He also spoke about potentially returning to the top four and while he believes Spurs are some way off, Allardyce thinks Conte is capable.

“If anybody will lick Tottenham into shape, it will be Conte. I’ve known him quite a while,” Allardyce said. “This man takes no messing.

“He brings results. They have to go his way, he will have demanded that. Tottenham will improve. He is very good, disciplined, old school.”

Allardyce on Conte: Tottenham are still in a decent position after Nuno

With Conte available, it was a no-brainer to sack under-fire Nuno and bring in the Italian. He is one of the best, if not the best, in the world.

While Nuno was criticised for a lack of identity, and poor substitutions – he has left Spurs in a decent place. They are just five points off the top four.

Sitting in eighth, Spurs have got four points from three European games and should qualify for the knockout stages of the Conference League.

Nuno also masterminded a 1-0 win away against Burnley, a tricky clash at Turf Moor, to guide Spurs in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Conte is taking over Tottenham in a decent position, Nuno could have left them in a much-worse state than they are currently in.
