Sakho hints at ambition to push onto Champions League side with Euro 2020 in sight

Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho has hinted that he wants to move to a club at a higher level,

The French defender has eyes on the France squad for Euro 2020, as the world champions look to continue their dominance.

He : “I am enjoying myself at Crystal Palace, but in life you never know what will happen tomorrow. I am not especially thinking about Euro 2020 but everyone who knows me knows that I am ambitious. The best thing for a player is to start in Ligue 2, Ligue 1, then the Champions’ League and the national team.

“Many people may have thought that ‘Mamad’ was buried or forgotten but in my head this was not the case. Of course I still have the France team in sight. If I was reminded, it’s because the France team has an eye on me too.”

Sakho’s always given off the impression he feels he can do a bit better than Palace – despite the fact they took a chance on him when he was out of favour at Liverpool because of his attitude.

But his comments come after the Wilfried Zaha’s ambitions to play in the Champions League – a competition Palace are never going to get to realistically.

That means that Roy Hodgson could have a job on his hands keeping a squad together who have underperformed slightly this term, in terms of being closer to the relegation fight than the comfortable mid-table finish they’re good enough to get.
