‘I looked over’: Ryan Sessegnon says he spotted what Conte was doing just before his Spurs goal at Bournemouth

Tottenham won at Bournemouth today and goalscorer Ryan Sessegnon admitted he thought he was getting the hook before scoring.

Sessegnon started the fightback when his deflected effort made it’s way past Mark Travers in the Cherries goal. From there, it seemed like Spurs found a new gear and Rodrigo Bentancur’s late winner capped off the comeback.

For Spurs manager Antonio Conte, it was a welcome relief. A dire first-half had looked all too similar to recent performances. In the end, it was actually Conte’s changes that helped Tottenham win. And Sessegnon, speaking to the , admitted he was lucky to still be on the pitch as he spotted Conte prepping the subs before his goal.

“I had a little feeling as I looked over and saw him getting ready to come on but it is just one of them things that I had to make sure to leave my mark just before and thankfully I stayed on for a little bit longer,” Sessegnon told the .

“I have a good relationship with him [Conte] and I just try to be as consistent as I can for him.”

Sessegnon has battled to win his place back from the experienced Ivan Perisic of late. A goal today will have done him the world of good, with the wing-backs so crucial in Conte’s sytem.

TBR’s View: Sessegnon showing his worth at Tottenham now

We all saw how good he was at Fulham but there had been growing concerns that Sessegnon might never transfer that form to Tottenham. However, he seems to have put that to bed.

Sessegnon is getting better and better and you have to say, in Conte’s system anyway, he is perfect.

The key now for the young Englishman is to find and then keep consistency. If he can do that, then Conte won’t be dropping him anytime soon. Sessegnon did eventually come off today, but not until the 84th minute.
