Ryan Mason offers Serge Aurier update after Tottenham Hotspur defender misses Wolves win through injury
Ryan Mason told reporters, via , following Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday that Serge Aurier had agreed to sit out the match.
Aurier had started each of Mason’s Premier League fixtures in charge since replacing Jose Mourinho on an interim basis, but was unavailable over the weekend due to a .
The Ivory Coast captain was able to train all week despite the issue, yet it was agreed by Aurier and Spurs’ medical department not to risk the 28-year-old as he was not operating at 100 per cent.
Mason is not offering a timescale on Aurier’s return with Tottenham not totally convinced of his recovery as things stand, potentially ruling the international out for the visit of Aston Villa to north London on Wednesday night.

Aurier has now missed four sets of top-flight matches this season , helping to restrict the right-back to 19 appearances from a possible 36 outside of during his tenure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mason will surely have been buoyed by the performance delivered by Japhet Tanganga while stepping in as the stand-in for Aurier against Wolves on Sunday, with the Spurs product willing to get up and down the touchline and make a difference at both ends.
The interim head coach will likely also be glad that Aurier’s absence was down to an injury and not a decision made by the club, amid speculation linking the defender with holding talks over a return to Paris Saint-Germain against interest from Real Madrid ().
Aurier has been Mason’s first choice at full-back since being given the caretaker position and will probably continue to favour the Ivorian over the final fixtures of the season, with Spurs despite their win over Wolves.
