Ryan Mason names player that has excellent in Tottenham training during last week
that Dele Alli has been excellent in training over the past week and deserved to start against Sheffield United based on his effort behind the scenes – even impressing his Spurs teammates ahead of Sunday.
Dele, 25, was handed just his third Premier League start of the season by interim manager Mason as Spurs played host to already-relegated Sheffield United. They cruised to a 4-0 win, though they were made to wait by the Blades for the first goal.
It took a bit of magic from Serge Aurier to find Gareth Bale, who dinked Aaron Ramsdale. Bale went on to net a hat-trick and take his tally to 14 goals, while Son Heung-min also got his name on the score sheet. Dele was excellent throughout.
Mason spoke after the match of how the England international – who was sporting a new haircut – had impressed him and the rest of the Spurs squad during training ahead of Sunday’s 4-0 win and deserved to start the match on that basis.
“He had an excellent training week and I had to reward it. The players felt it too. He had that edge. Considering he hadn’t started a Premier League game for some time his fitness levels and attiutde was fantastic,”

TBR’s view – Dele can show new manager what he can do under Mason
With Mason remaining in charge until the end of the season, Dele has every chance to start all four remaining Premier League matches as Spurs look to catch Chelsea who sit in fourth. If he impresses in those four games, then it puts a marker down.
It shows the incoming manager, which could even be Mason, that he has what it takes to shine at this level. That he is back to his best. That he is willing to put the yards in. That he still has that game-changing magic. A big chance for Dele right now.
