Ryan Mason delivers Tottenham injury update on trio ahead of Southampton clash
Ryan Mason has told his pre-Southampton press conference – – that Matt Doherty has returned to Tottenham Hotspur training this week ahead of Wednesday night’s clash, and gave updates on Harry Kane and Ben Davies.
Interim manager Mason takes to the dugout for the first time as Tottenham manager on Wednesday when Spurs play host to Southampton. With six Premier League games to play, Spurs really need to take maximum points to reach the top four.
A win against Southampton is much-needed, or Spurs face another season without Champions League football. Mason has now delivered an injury update – commenting on three players that could end up missing Wednesday’s outing, Mason’s first.
He stated that Doherty has returned to training and could be available for selection, but ruled out top scorer Kane – he stated he did not train on Tuesday and that he is a doubt for the weekend. He also gave an update on Welsh left-back Davies.
“Not sure,” , when asked about Kane. “He didn’t train today. Taking it day by day. Not sure about the weekend yet. Matt returned to the training group yesterday. Ben I am not sure how long he has until he gets back. That’s all we’ve got.”

TBR’s view – Mason desperately needs a win in first match
Regardless of any dreams of earning the job on a permanent basis, Mason has got to win his first match in charge to give Spurs any chance of top-four qualification. He has got to win to give Spurs the momentum needed to beat a team like Man City.
If Mason can beat Southampton, the confidence will be restored somewhat ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Pep Guardiola’s men – and then, there is a chance of beating the Premier League leaders. Mason needs to get three points.
