Ryan Mason comments suggest Spurs man may have played his last game for the club

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason has provided an update on Danny Rose ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League meeting with Southampton.

The 30-year-old full-back has been training with Spurs’ Under-23s after being frozen out under Jose Mourinho, and wasn’t even allocated a squad number.

According to , Rose – whose contract expires at the end of the season – has requested to return to Tottenham’s first-team squad.

However, Mason confirmed that the England international is out injured, and given he’s not registered in the club’s Premier League squad, he’s “pretty sure” he can’t play in the competition.

Indeed, the 29-year-old admitted he’s not spoken to Rose yet, adding his “main priority” concerns the players that are fit and available.

“I haven’t spoken to Danny personally,” Mason is quoted by as saying. “He’s injured at the moment and also I’m pretty sure he can’t play in the Premier League.

“He’s not been included in the Premier League squad so that’s something to be honest I’ve not really thought about.

“My main priority at the moment has been the players that are fit, the group that are over there trying to prepare as best possible for the game tomorrow because it’s been such a short turnaround that there’s not been much time for anything.”

TBR View:

Rose has done well for Tottenham over the years, registering over 200 competitive appearances for the club, so it’s a shame for him to have been frozen out entirely.

Mason obviously has other priorities at the minute, namely the League Cup final and the pursuit of European football, so it’s not surprising to hear he’s not spoken to Rose.

And given his current injury, lack of senior match fitness, ineligibility to play in the Premier League and contract running out in the summer, it’s likely that Rose has played his last game for Spurs – barring a late contract offer, of course.
