Ryan Mason and Robbie Keane applaud Tottenham star after Newcastle win
Harry Kane scored his 200th club goal in just his 350th appearance as Tottenham Hotspur earned a 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night – and both Ryan Mason and Robbie Keane have applauded the striker.
Kane, who turns 27 at the end of the month, scored twice as Spurs kept their Europa League hopes alive. The win also ended Jose Mourinho’s long wait for a win on Tyneside – something he has never done before.
Son Heung-min gave Spurs the lead with an excellent finish past Martin Dubravka, but Spurs were pegged back in the second half by Newcastle – as Matt Ritchie lashed home a stunning effort.
But Kane restored Tottenham’s lead on the hour mark finishing neatly after an excellent cross from Steven Bergwijn, before the England skipper headed home the rebound bravely after Erik Lamela had a shot saved.
Kane posted on Instagram after the match, dedicating the win to Serge Aurier – who suffered the death of his brother on Monday – as well as underlining his delight at reaching 200 professional goals at club level.
It is a somewhat stunning achievement to have reached such a milestone in his games played. He betters Cristiano Ronaldo, who took 379 outings to reach 200 – while Sergio Aguero played 396 times before scoring a double century.
Kane netted his 184th and 185th goal for Spurs. He scored nine on loan at Millwall, five at Leyton Orient and twice for Leicester City – taking him to 201 overall.
Ryan Mason – currently the club’s Under-18 manager – sent a message to Kane on Instagram while Spurs hero Robbie Keane replied to the striker’s Instagram post, both applauding the club’s fan favourite.
