Ryan Edmondson comments on ‘absolutely unbelievable’ experience of seeing Harry Kane
Young Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has been discussing his recent debut for the England under-19s side.
The talented frontman was handed a first appearance for his nation and the former York City striker had a dream start. He scored England’s second goal as the under-19s ran out 3-1 winners against a strong Greece side at St George’s Park.
Edmondson showed real striker instincts to tap home after Everton winger Anthony Gordon’s shot was parried onto the post.

about his experience with his nation. In particular, he referred to his pride at wearing the number nine shirt and following in the footsteps of the current England senior captain.
“Even seeing the shirt hanging up in the dressing room was something else. Seeing the number 9 on the back of an England shirt, and knowing that I was going to be putting it on, was just an unbelievable feeling. Then to walk out as an England player is something I’ve just always dreamed of…
“Yeah definitely (wearing number 9 was special). I think back to the 2018 World Cup with Harry Kane wearing it. Even now seeing him walking around the St George’s complex, is absolutely unbelievable to me, so to be able to wear that shirt, and to score in it, it’s all just incredibly surreal.”

Playing with the England youth set-up can only help Leeds’ young striker to develop. There is no doubt that being surrounded in the England camp and training on the same complex as a player so lethal as Kane will act as motivation for the Leeds player. Kane is quickly becoming one of England’s most potent strikers of all-time, moving to 25 goals for his country with a hat-trick against Bulgaria this weekend.
Edmondson and Kane share some similar characteristics and attributes which Leeds fans will hope can be developed.
If Edmondson can go on to become half as potent as Kane, then he could be a future Elland Road hero.
