‘Ruthless’: Liverpool target praised by country’s media after Euro 2020 clash

Liverpool transfer target Raphael Varane was in action last night as France got their Euro 2020 campaign off to a flyer.

The centre-back started the game in his natural position as the World Champions defeated Germany 1-0.

A Mats Hummels goal was enough to see Les Bleus home and give Didier Deschamps a perfect start.

Varane is an important member of the France team and has been attracting interest this summer.

Back in May, the linked Liverpool with a move for the 28-year-old.

The Real Madrid man is valued at £60 million by Los Blancos and other clubs are likely to be keen during the window.

Varane has proved a sound player for the La Liga outfit since his arribal.

He has played 360 times for the club and helped them lift the Champions League on no fewer than four occasions.

Last night Varane earned praise from Foot Mercato for his performance.

They gave him a 7/10 in their player ratings piece and raved about his performance.

: “The boss of the Real Madrid defence reigned in the face of the offensive armada of Germany.

“He was ruthless in the air and retained his great solidity. The France team will need this during the summer.”

Konate deal shouldn’t stop Liverpool trying for Varane

There will come a team in the near future when Liverpool require new centre-backs.

Joe Gomez is okay but is hardly world-class just yet, whilst Virgil van Dijk has the tough task of coming back from a serious knee injury.

Ibrahima Konate looks like a tremendous signing but there is now reason whey they shouldn’t target Varane.

At £60 million he’d prove a really good addition and last night he highlighted his class once again.

Liverpool did well to secure a Champions League berth last season.

Next season they’ll want the title though and with that in mind, it’s easy to see why the likes of Varane are being linked with a move to Anfield.
