Roy Keane says Ange Postecoglou has done something at Tottenham he quite likes
It’s been very difficult to back anything Ange Postecoglou has been doing at Tottenham recently.
Indeed, Ange Postecoglou has lost his way at Spurs. Tottenham sit 14th in the Premier League rigꦿht now, and they’re out of both domestic cup com♚petitions.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
14 | 24 | 8 | 3 | 13 | 48 | 37 | 11 | 27 |
As Spurs’ form has dipped, Postecoglou has got more and more frosty.
Indeed, Postecoglou has had a few sparring matches with the media in recent times, and Postecoglou has been criticised for his handling of press conferences.
The Australian made headlines a few months ago when he stated that he always wins trophies♛ in his second seasons at any club, and, inevitably, after being eliminated from the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, those comments have reared their head again.
Speaking on ITV, Roy Keane has been discussing Postecoglou’s comments about his trophies, and, i✨nterestingly, Keane says that he actually quite likes that approach.

Roy Keane backs Ange Postecoglou’s trophy comments
Keane spoke about Postecoglou’s comments.
Keane usually really doesn’t ♋like it when anyone in football gets above their station, but he says that he doesn’t mind Postecoglou backing himself and being cocky in this way.
“He dౠid say at the start of the season that he always wins a trophy in his second campaign, he probably regrets saying that now,” The host said.
“I don’t mind that. Listen, sometimes that can be tongue-in-cheek for a manager, but he’s serious and he still has a chance to back it up. They’rꦑe still in with a chance. I don’t mind it, a manager coming up and being cocky. He still has a chance with Europe and the competition they’re in, they will be able to compete in that competition,” Keane said.
Ange Postecoglou’s trophy record
Keane says that he doesn’t mind Postecoglou being brash about his achievements, and, to be fair, theꩲ Australian does have a very good track record in this regard.
Ind♛eed, when Postecoglou said that he always wins a trophy in his second year in a job, he’s not lying🥃.
Season/Year one | Season/Year two | |
---|---|---|
Tottenham | No Trophy | N/a |
Celtic | Scottish champion, Scottish League Cup | Scottish champion, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup |
Yokohama Marinos | Japanese Champion | No Trophy |
Australia | No Trophy | Asian Cup |
Melbourne Victory | No Trophy | Sacked |
Brisbane Roar | No Trophy | Australian champion |
Of course, the exception to this rule is♕ Postecoglou’s time at Melbourne Victory where he was ♐sacked before the end of his second season.
Who knows? Perhaps Postecoglou’s record could be spared in 𓆏the same way at Spurs. After all, there have been calls to sack Postecoglou recently, 🍬while Matt Wells is lined up as Spurs’ interim replacement too.
Postecoglou does always win a trophy when he’s allowed to complete two full seasons inꦜ a job, but whether or not he’s afforded that luxury at Tottenham remains to be seen.
