Roy Keane reacts after Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Man United before Ruben Amorim’s first game

Ruud van Nistelrooy has only enhanced his reputation at Old Trafford during his brief stint as manager of Manchester United.

In truth, it was a surprise when Van Nistelrooy joined Man United as an assistant manager back in July.

Previously, Van Nistelrooy was the head coach at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, meaning it was odd to see him take a step back in terms of seniority, even if it was to join a club as big as United.

But, after Erik ten Hag was let go, Van Nistelrooy enjoyed his moment at helm, winning three of his four games as interim boss.

Of course, with Ruben Amorim now coming in, it only felt like a matter of time until United confirmed that their legendary striker would also be moving on.

Roy Keane says Ruud van Nistelrooy leaving Old Trafford wasn’t a shock

Speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Roy Keane offered his thoughts on Van Nistelrooy’s departure, concluding that it didn’t come as a surprise.

The pundit thought that ‘everyone wins’ as a result of his former teammate leaving, who will possibly head back into management.

Keane said: “Ruud was never staying. Of course he wasn’t. He handled himself well. He looked smart and he spoke well but he was never going to stay.

“Ruud was never going to stay. Why [would Amorim keep him]? He has 26 of his own staff coming.

“Ruud who has been part of the previous. United will give him a few bob, everyone wins. He had four games. He beat Leicester twice, drew with Chelsea, won in Europe.

“He did a nice job and came across well and spoke well, as you’d expect, he’s a decent guy and has managed before. It wasn’t going to be a shock to him.”

United already eyeing two signings after Ruben Amorim arrival

Of course, one interesting aspect of Amorim’s new era will be how the recruitment strategy adjusts at Old Trafford.

Under ten Hag, the club tended to lean towards players that the Dutchman had strong knowledge of, an arrangement that often failed to impress.

Although, it could be argued that United have signed good players, but simply not ones that were right for their old system.

That being said, United have their eyes on two impressive signings and could compete with Manchester City for them in the near future.

A fascinating new era at the club, and one that Van Nistelrooy will no longer be part of.
