Roy Keane names the best finisher he ever played with at Manchester United

It’s fair to say that Roy Keane knew a good finisher when he saw one during his long successful career at Manchester United.

Keane won an incredible seven league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, also adding four FA Cups and one Champions League medal to his pile.

The midfielder was a stalwart of the most illustrious period of United’s history.

That being said, Keane must have known a thing or two about successful strikers.

Keane played alongside Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole, Eric Cattona and Dwight Yorke just to name a few.

However, when speaking on the ‘’ podcast, Keane didn’t name any of the above as the best finisher he played alongside at United.

Keane was discussing who he’d want to have on his team when through one on one with a goalkeeper.

And the Man United legend chose Ruud van Nistelrooy as the striker he’d want on his side.

Roy Keane says Ruud van Nistelrooy was the best finisher he played with at Man United

Speaking on the podcast, Keane said: “You’d want Ruud. Ruud one vs one with the goalkeeper, he’d score.”

Of course, it’s very hard to argue against the merits of those words.

Ruud van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for Manchester United.

And it wasn’t just in England where the striker enjoyed his success.

The Dutchman also scored a ridiculous 77 goals in 90 games for PSV Eindhoven before arriving at Old Trafford.

And after his departure he then scored 64 goals in 96 games for Real Madrid – he certainly knew where the goal was.

Can he come back?

Of course, it wouldn’t be too hard for Keane to name the best finisher at Manchester United today.

And that’s not because of one outstanding candidate, rather a lack of.

Rasmus Hojlund showed a ton of promise with his performance against Tottenham Hotspur, but he still has a long way to go.

Anthony Martial simply isn’t in the question at this stage of his career, a player United will surely need to move.

That being said, Erik ten Hag’s side have now been linked with a move for one of the best finishers around in January.

And it that move doesn’t materialise this month, it seems plans are also in place for the summer
