Roy Keane has shock score prediction for when Newcastle face Southampton in Premier League opener
After just one season outside of the Premier League, Southampton return to the top flight to travel to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Russell Martin will have no doubt preferred an easier opening fixture, aware of how strong Newcastle now are under Eddie Howe.
Alexander Isak is one of several players on Tyneside looking fit and ready for the season ahead, hoping he’ll be able to beat his best individual tally for a season, which now stands at 21 goals.
Isak managed to reach that figure in just 30 games last season, and Newcastle fans will be praying that he can stay fit for all 38 this time round.
That being said, Newcastle will face one of their former academy products in Adam Armstrong on Saturday, who is arguably in the best form of his career.
Armstrong played 21 games for Newcastle in total, failing to hit the back of the net.
But now 27-years-old and approaching his prime years, Armstrong managed 21 goals for Southampton in the Championship last season – the same figure as Isak.
Roy Keane thinks Southampton will cause an upset at Newcastle on Saturday
All that being said, when speaking on the ‘’ podcast, Roy Keane perhaps thought that Armstrong’s run of scoring won’t stop there.
As when predicting the score for Newcastle and Southampton’s meeting on the weekend, Keane delivered a shock verdict, claiming that the visitors would win.

Keane simply said: “I think Southampton surprise everyone. Southampton 2-1.”
Perhaps the pundit still feels as if Newcastle’s defensive issues from the latter half of last season could cause them issues, a defence which is not as watertight as once was.
From a defensive standpoint, it will be interesting to see if Kieran Trippier is in Howe’s starting eleven.
TBR Football recently shared that Trippier was free to leave Newcastle this summer, amid interest from Galatasaray.
And with Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento now aiming for starting roles, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if the 33-year-old began the season on the sidelines.
It would be a brave call for Howe to make, a player who often wears the captain’s armband for the club, but perhaps some at Newcastle will now consider it the correct call.
