Roy Keane does not believe Tottenham Hotspur will see the best of Gareth Bale

Former Premier League star Roy Keane believes Tottenham Hotspur fans are going to be left disappointed if they expect to ever see Gareth Bale back to his best again in North London.

The Welshman returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid in the summer after a dropping down the pecking order in the Spanish capital amid a personal fallout with Zinedine Zidane and continuous injury trouble.

When Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid he left as the world’s most expensive player and went on to have considerable success both domestically and in Europe with Los Merengues.

But Keane, , does not believe that Bale will ever get back to that level.

“I don’t see Gareth Bale getting back to the same level he was a few years ago,” ” If you’re a top player you have got to play week in and week out. You see the (Cristiano) Ronaldo’s and (Lionel) Messi’s and all this.

“When Bale is at his best, and we are going back a good few years now, he’s produced big moments in big games, but he looks way off it.”

Bale came on against Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend but failed to have any impact on proceedings as Spurs lost 2-0 and dropped below the Foxes in the table.

There’s no doubt that Bale still has incredible talent but one of his key weapons, electric pace, has deserted him through advancing years, inactivity and injury.

Nowadays, Bale is reliant on moments of magic from his wand-like left-foot and perhaps needs to adapt his game further to become either a creative playmaker threat or a straight number nine.

Hopefully, Bale can still bring a winners mentality and a decent goal return to Tottenham this season. But Keane is likely correct with his belief that the Bale of old is gone for good.
