Roy Keane claims 27-year-old Tottenham star is not as good as everyone thinks
Roy Keane believes that James Maddison is not actually as good as many people suggest, as the Tottenham Hotspur star closes in on returning from injury.
It looked to be a massive blow when James Maddison sustained an injury in November. The 27-year-old had made an outstanding start to life in North London.
Maddison was arguably one of the best players in the Premier League in the opening weeks of the season. He scored three goals and contributed five assists for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Roy Keane not as impressed by James Maddison as most
It was a worry for Spurs when Postecoglou ruled Maddison out for some time. But Maddison looks set to return in January. And with that, many will be excited for Tottenham given that they remain within touching distance of the top four in the Premier League.

However – and perhaps unsurprisingly – Roy Keane does not seem as excited about Maddison’s return. In fact, he suggested on that he has not been as impressed by the England international as most seem to be.
“I think he is a good player. Not as good as everyone is making out. I like him, I think he’s a good player, but I don’t think he’s like De Bruyne coming back for them,” he said.
Tottenham star’s return is a huge boost for Ange Postecoglou
Where you have to say that Keane has a point is that Tottenham have not fallen apart without Maddison. They initially lost a number of games. However, they were also without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at that time.
But they have scored in every single league game since Maddison was sidelined.
Having said that, it says everything that Maddison will surely go straight back into the starting lineup once he is fully fit again.
Tottenham have so much quality in the final third now. And yet, the former Leicester City man is the player who looks to bring it all together.
Certainly, Spurs’ opponents will be even more concerned about facing Postecoglou’s side if they see Maddison in the lineup.
