Roy Hodgson sends warning to Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has warned Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster than moving to Selhurst Park on loan wouldn’t guarantee him the game time he craves.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a January exit from Anfield, with Palace one of four sides keen – the others being Aston Villa, and Championship outfits Leeds United and Swansea City ().

Brewster has made just two first-team appearances in 2019/20, with Roberto Firmino firmly established as the Jurgen Klopp’s number nine.

The youngster has made a further nine appearances for the U23s.

It is understood Liverpool would be willing to let Brewster head out on loan in January, but only if potential suitors can provide assurances of regular game time.

But if Brewster had been eyeing Palace, Liverpool could now stand in his way following Hodgson’s comments.

He said (): “He’s a good player, there’s no doubt about that. The only thing that would concern me there is that I don’t know quite how many guaranteed games [he would get].

“If I was going to speak to Jurgen and he was going to talk to me about, ‘I want Rhian Brewster to go out on loan and play some matches.’ I’m not 100 percent certain I could guarantee him that he would be the first name on the team sheet.”

He has so much talent and he needs the right environment to be able to express it.

Palace would seemingly be a good move on the face of it but Hodgson’s comments may put Liverpool off sending him there.

It would probably also be wise for Liverpool to make sure they include a recall option, just in case anything happens to any of their forwards.
