‘I could see’: Wayne Rooney spotted something really unusual about Harry Kane at the World Cup
Wayne Rooney has said that he noticed something very unusual about Tottenham star Harry Kane at the World Cup. The 29-year-old missed a crucial penalty with just minutes remaining as England lost 2-1 to France.
Kane had tucked away a spot kick earlier in the piece. When substitute Mason Mount was fouled with six minutes remaining, he stepped up once again but fired his penalty high over the crossbar.
It was still a pretty decent tournament for Kane. He scored two goals and claimed three assists; although his late miss against France gave his critics some ammunition.

Rooney has been there and seen it all when it comes to the England team. He is the joint all-time top goalscorer, with Kane matching him with his goal against France in the quarter-final.
He has claimed that he spotted something unusual about the Tottenham man prior to him taking his penalty kick against France.
“I could see his nerves, straightaway, as he prepared for the kick — little signs of anxiety that you almost never see in Harry,” Rooney claimed in an interview transcribed by The Spurs Web.
Rooney has a point and the fact that the second penalty was awarded after a VAR check certainly didn’t help matters. It left Kane waiting for some minutes to take his failed penalty.
Rooney noticed something unusual about Kane
It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for Kane. He is England’s talisman and ultimately he deserves the support of the nation in this current time of need.
Kane will come again. Rooney has even touched upon that in his latest interview and the striker will have a bit of time on his side.

It was uncharacteristic for Kane to blaze his penalty over. It’s quite poor that a player ever misses the target from 12 yards but even more so from a player of Kane’s class.
Tottenham will welcome the player back to their club with open arms. He’s now returned to training and he will be raring to go later this month.
