Romano shares Madueke update amid Tottenham and Chelsea links
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Noni Madueke for quite a while now.
Speculation linking Spurs and their former academy star has resurfaced this month too.
recently claimed that Tottenham were still monitoring Madueke, who left Spurs in 2018.
As well as Spurs, the likes of Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham were also said to be in pursuit.
However, Chelsea have reportedly won the race to land Madueke ahead of the likes of Tottenham.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who declared “here we go” on Madueke to Stamford Bridge.
The transfer insider says a verbal agreement is in place with PSV Eindhoven for a €35m (£30.5m) deal.
Madueke, who was “strongly wanted” by the Chelsea board, will sign a long-term contract in the next few days.
Admittedly, speculation linking Tottenham and Madueke never really seemed to go beyond the exploratory level.
Nonetheless, it can’t be nice to see a player who was on the Spurs books now linking up with London rivals.
Why did Madueke leave Tottenham Hotspur?
Madueke has made a real name for himself since swapping Tottenham for PSV in 2018.
The 20-year-old previously captained the Spurs Under-16s team.
quotes Madueke as saying in 2021 that he left Tottenham because he wanted to play in “man football” instead of age-level football.
After making his debut for PSV in January 2020, he has gone on to make 50 appearances, scoring 11 goals.
“At 16 year old I felt I was ready for a first team,” The Mirror quoted Madueke as saying.
“I backed myself 100 percent. I am very impatient!
“The quicker you get young talents into first team football the quicker they get ahead of the talent of other nations.
“At PSV I am important for my team, scoring goals, and doing my job as an attacker.”
Madueke also said the Premier League is “the best league in the world and every young English player wants to be there.”
It looks like he’ll be getting his wish. But sadly for Tottenham, it won’t be with them, but with Chelsea instead.
