Fabrizio Romano that Arsenal are still interested in signing Renato Sanches from Lille, but suggested that the Gunners are yet to open talks with the midfielder.
Sanches remains one of the most highly sought-after players in Europe. Of course, he helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title last season. And he followed that with some superb performances at Euro 2020 with Portugal.

Unsurprisingly, he was linked with a Premier League return. Both Arsenal and Liverpool are admirers of the 24-year-old. And it was suggested back in November that the Gunners were looking to sell members of their squad to raise the funds to meet Lille’s £46 million asking price.
Obviously, no move would take place in January. But Romano has suggested that Sanches is attracting interest. He claimed Arsenal remain in the running. And he hinted that Liverpool and Barcelona are likely to also be admirers.

“At the moment, Arsenal are not in negotiations with Renato, with his agent, or with Lille,” . “So at the moment, the situation is quiet.
“But last summer, Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool were three clubs seriously interested in Renato Sanches. So I would keep them in the list because Renato Sanches is a kind of player that you keep on your list for the long-term. So I’m sure that he’s still on the list of the three clubs.
“Arsenal at the moment, interested, but still quiet on the negotiation side.”
Arsenal cannot afford to not sign midfielder this summer amid Sanches links
It is no surprise that Arsenal remain interested. Sanches has been excellent in Ligue 1 this term. And he should only now be reaching the peak of his powers.
The Gunners meanwhile, need to sign a midfielder. They let the January transfer window close without any new additions coming in.
Mikel Arteta’s side are already short on options for the middle of the park. And Mohamed Elneny is out of contract .
They cannot let the next window pass without strengthening further. And after a quiet January, the fans shall expect big things.
Arsenal made some real statements last summer. They signed several younger players with incredibly high ceilings.
Sanches certainly fits into that category. He has previously been labelled ‘‘ by Carlo Ancelotti.
And Lille are not in a strong position. at the end of next season.
Arsenal however, may want to get the ball rolling soon. As Romano noted, the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool may well still have their eye on Sanches heading into the summer.
