Romano says Tottenham were not happy with Adama Traore

Fabrizio Romano that he would not be surprised to see Tottenham Hotspur target Adama Traore, but shared that Spurs were not happy with the wide-man snubbing a move in January.

Traore looks set to return to the transfer market this summer. Of course, he joined Barcelona on loan from Wolves during the winter window. Unfortunately for the Spain international, his move to the Nou Camp has not worked out.

He struggled to establish himself as an important player with the Catalan giants. And he now looks set to return to Molineux. His stay, however, could end up being a brief one.

Reports claimed that Newcastle and Leeds want the 26-year-old. But there is, once again, also interest from Tottenham.

Spurs made a big play for Traore in January. In fact, it was claimed that they made a life-changing offer to the winger. Ultimately however, he chose to make the move to the Nou Camp.

Interestingly, Romano has suggested that that may have left a sour taste in the mouth for Tottenham – despite Antonio Conte’s side potentially wanting to sign Traore this summer.

“I won’t be surprised if, in the end, Tottenham go for him,” . “I’m sure he’s a name they have on the list. But at the moment, he’s not the real priority. I’m told Tottenham were not super happy with what happened in January when they were really close to signing him and then he really wanted to join Barcelona.

“I think Adama has to show that he really wants to join Tottenham if he wants this opportunity again.”

Tottenham not happy with Adama Traore

Obviously, we do not know all of the details of what took place in January. But it would appear that Tottenham are ready to put aside their past frustrations.

Of course, Spurs appointed Conte at the second attempt after talks last summer. So perhaps the situation may be similar with Traore.

You can understand why he would prefer to join Barca in January. He spent more than a decade there as a youngster. And he probably left thinking that he would not get another opportunity to play for them. So you can see why he jumped at the chance to return.

Traore has the potential to be an ‘‘ player. So Tottenham are not going to let his decision in January put them off if they feel that he would be a good signing in this window.
