‘Serious chances’: Fabrizio Romano says ‘special’ Tottenham man now almost certain to leave this summer
Tottenham winger, Steven Bergwijn, is still expected to leave the club this summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming there is a big chance for the Dutchman to go.
Bergwijn has been a peripheral figure for Spurs this season and while he’s had his odd moment – including the dramatic late winner at Leicester – he failed to really win over Antonio Conte. The Italian coach signed Dejan Kulusevski in January, while Lucas Moura is also ahead of Bergwijn too.

And according to , it’s now almost certain that Bergwijn moves on from the club this summer, with Ajax looking on with intent. Taking to his Twitter account today, Romano confirmed there are ‘serious chances’ for Bergwijn to leave north London.
Of course, news of Bergwijn being on his way out is nothing brand new. Bergwijn’s name has been on the list of potential outgoings for some time now. It seems more like a case of when, and not if, the Dutchman leaves.
Interestingly, there has been talk of Manchester United making a move for the ‘special’ Bergwijn. However, United fans would probably be uninspired by their club signing a Tottenham understudy, and a move back to mainland Europe appears the most likely option.
TBR’s View: Bergwijn Needs To Leave Tottenham For His Own Good
Sometimes a transfer just doesn’t work out and that’s what this is a case of with Bergwijn and Tottenham.
Yes, at times, he’s looked like being capable. And yes, he does seem to do well for the Dutch national team in certain games. But he isn’t getting in this Spurs side under Conte, and there seems to be little he can do to convince Conte otherwise.
A move to Old Trafford would be surprising. Romano’s mention of Ajax, then, would appear the safest bet here.
