Romano says ‘many clubs’ want Tottenham player in January – Newcastle must be one
Steven Bergwijn’s future at Tottenham is in doubt, ahead of the January window. Fabrizio Romano says “many clubs” are interested in signing the Dutchman – and Newcastle have simply got to be one of those.
Bergwijn, 24, is struggling for game time under Antonio Conte. The Italian gaffer has settled on a front three of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane – and it is unlikely anyone will be displacing them.
Netherlands international Bergwijn has scored just four goals in 62 games for Spurs. Despite his debut goal against Manchester City, he simply has not lived up to his hefty £27million price tag.
Romano spoke about his future, in his latest: “Many clubs are interested in him, it depends on Antonio Conte. If Conte gives the green light to let him leave in January, many clubs will jump.”

Why Newcastle must be one of ‘many’ eyeing Tottenham ace Bergwijn…
Newcastle have options in attack. In Eddie Howe’s 3-4-3 system, Allan Saint-Maximin is one of the first names on the team sheet on the right – and Callum Wilson up top. Joelinton is improving.
But the Brazilian is not consistent enough, if his time at Newcastle is to go by. The Toon could do with a right-winger, especially with Ryan Fraser proving to be more of an impact player off the bench.
If there is a loan deal potentially on the cards for Bergwijn in January – then Newcastle have simply got to bring in the ex-PSV Eindhoven man. If they do pursue a deal, they would face competition from Ajax.
Newcastle are obviously playing a new, attacking style. But they need players that can break with pace, and play on the counter – capable of producing something out of nothing. £73,000-a-week () star Bergwijn is ideal.
