Romano says Arsenal boss has ‘always liked’ £47m Tottenham midfield target

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could both potentially be vying for Ruben Neves in the January transfer window.

Earlier this week,  claimed that the Gunners are ready to hijack Newcastle‘s move to sign the Al-Hilal ace.

Now, have reported that Tottenham have added Neves to their shortlist of central midfielders ahead of the New Year.

In a boost to both Arsenal and Spurs, Neves is now said to be open to a January return to the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano, writing on , has now provided an update about the Gunners’ apparent interest in the former Wolves star.

Although Arsenal are not known to be in negotiations for Neves at present, the transfer insider admits Mikel Arteta has always liked the player.

“Elsewhere with Arsenal, we’re seeing some surprise links with a loan move for Ruben Neves at Al Hilal,” Romano said.

“He’s mainly been linked with Newcastle, who appreciate the player, but there is also historical interest from Mikel Arteta.

“He has always liked Neves, but there are no negotiations at the moment.”

Arsenal and Spurs set to battle for ‘iconic’ Neves

Both Arsenal and Tottenham seem keen on bolstering their midfield ranks in the January transfer window.

Gunners midfielder Thomas Partey is once again finding himself on the sidelines due to injury issues, while the jury remains out on Fabio Vieira.

Meanwhile, Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains linked with a move away, while James Maddison will likely be out until the New Year.

There’s no doubt Neves would be a great signing for Arsenal. The £47million man is a world-class talent in his prime.

He clocked up 253 appearances for the West Midlands club, registering 30 goals and 13 assists during his time in old gold.
