Romano delivers update on Tottenham man, Conte could give green light

that “many clubs” are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn, but a January move depends on Antonio Conte.

Bergwijn, 24, has been afforded just three Premier League starts all season. They came in the first three matches, which saw Nuno Espirito Santo clock up three wins against Manchester City, Wolves and Watford.

But since then, he has failed to start in the Premier League. Under Conte, he has been afforded just 13 minutes of game time spread across two substitute appearances – with Conte taking 10 points from four games.

report that Ajax are interested in signing Bergwijn. However, Italian journalist Romano says that it is not just Ajax wanting to bring in the £27million man – but that there are “many clubs” keen.

“Bergwijn is a different situation. Many clubs are interested in him and have been for a long time, it depends on Antonio Conte,” Romano said. “If Conte gets the green light to let him leave in January, then many clubs will jump.”

Romano on Bergwijn: Conte needs to let him leave Tottenham on loan

With the likelihood that Conte will bring in a couple of new signings in the January window, Bergwijn could fall down the pecking order even further. He is already struggling for game time.

Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min are easily first choice. Spurs then have the likes of Dele Alli, Bryan Gil, Gio Lo Celso and plenty of others that can play in the front three. Ryan Sessegnon is on his way back.

For the good of Tottenham, for the player himself and for the club who could potentially get Bergwijn back to his best, it makes utter sense to let the Dutchman leave – but only on loan.
