Romano: Dele delaying Everton decision until manager is named

Fabrizio Romano that Dele Alli wants to see who Everton will appoint as their next manager before deciding whether to sign from Tottenham Hotspur.

Dele looks set to be one player who could leave Antonio Conte’s side in the final days of the January transfer window. It was ominous that he was left out of the match-day squad for their trip to Chelsea at the weekend.

There is interest in the 25-year-old. It was recently suggested that both Everton and Newcastle are keen on the attacking midfielder.

Romano suggested that Newcastle pursuing Dele may come down to how they get on in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard.

And interestingly, he hinted that Dele may be open to joining Everton. He suggested that the Tottenham star may only make a decision once the Toffees confirm who will succeed Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park.

“Newcastle asked for information for Dele Alli. Everton is another possibility,” . “But that is not the priority now because of course, the player wants to understand who will be the manager and what is going to happen with Everton before saying ‘yes, I’m joining’.

“But Dele Alli, my expectation is for him to leave in the final days of the window.”

The next move in Dele’s career could be crucial. He clearly has the talent to be devastating in the Premier League. Of course, he was at that level previously. And he has shown glimpses this season, having been labelled ‘‘ by Ian Wright after one display.

But several Tottenham managers now have struggled to find a place for the Englishman in their plans. And with that, he is seemingly running out of time to turn his career around.

It is imperative therefore, that if he leaves Tottenham, he makes the right move. And joining Everton right now may be a gamble.

It is not yet clear who will succeed Benitez. And with that, it is not yet clear whether Dele would suit whatever system the Toffees play in the months ahead.

It would be too much of a gamble for the former MK Dons man to move to Merseyside in this window unless an appointment is made quickly.

But it is interesting that Dele is seemingly not ruling out a move to Goodison Park just yet.
