Romano comments on Wolves pursuit of striker, says Cutrone will leave if he joins

Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pursuit of Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose – and claims that Patrick Cutrone will return to Serie A if the Brazilian is signed.

Jose, 29, has struggled for game time this season – starting only 10 of his 21 league and cup appearances, but he did start against Cordoba in the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday night and netted two goals in a 2-0 win over Cordoba.

Wolves are closing in on a move to sign Jose – who has been called up by Brazil but has never won a cap for his country. His record in La Liga is impressive, though, scoring 61 goals in 174 top-flight outings.

Romano states, though, that nothing is agreed. The Italian transfer expert states talks are ongoing, but the loan fee and permanent clause are still to be decided. Romano also says that if Jose signs, Cutrone will return to Serie A.

Wolverhampton will negotiate with Real Sociedad also in the next hours/days to sign Willian José. Not a done deal yet – buy option price and loan fee are still to be agreed. Cutrone will only leave Wolves [to re-join Serie A] if Willian José signs. 🐺

TBR’s view – Cutrone needs to return to Serie A

Wolves have been applauded for their work in the transfer market over the past few seasons – largely with the help of super agent Jorge Mendes. Raul Jimenez, Rui Patricio, Joao Mourinho and Ruben Neves are all excellent examples.

Cutrone, though, is one that has not got going. He has scored just three goals in 27 Wolves appearances and while on loan at Fiorentina during the first half of the season – he has failed to find the back of the net in 13 games.

He needs game time, he needs goals and the £17million signing probably needs to return to comfortable surroundings in Italy.
