Romano: Arsenal will sell Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Roma for £8.5m
Arsenal and Roma are edging ever closer to a deal which will see Ainsley Maitland-Niles leave the Gunners in January, with an initial loan move looking likely.

Maitland-Niles has become frustrated with life at The Emirates. He wanted to go in the summer, when Wolves and Everton expressed serious interest. However, Mikel Arteta convinced him to stay with Arsenal. But the promise of more regular minutes has not come and now, Maitland-Niles looks to be on his way.
We already reported yesterday how had claimed talks were advanced. And now, according to Fabrizio Romano, we have an idea on the fee involved too.
Taking to his Twitter account last night, Romano has revealed how an £8.5m clause will be inserted into an initial six-month loan deal. There is no word on a loan fee as yet, but it is set to be agreed shortly.
Maitland-Niles is known for his versatility at Arsenal. However, he has gone on record saying he prefers a central midfield role. A move to Roma, then, could offer him that chance under Jose Mourinho.
TBR’s View: Bargain Buy For Roma If Fee Is Correct
Less than £10m for a young Premier League player with so much more to give is a bargain. Yes, Maitland-Niles needs to improve. But he has so much potential in the locker too.
Arsenal rejected more in the summer. They must, then, feel that the time has come to simply part ways with a player who is not really getting a look in under Mikel Arteta.
For Roma, it’s a smart move. They’ve already had success with Tammy Abraham, so they’ll be hoping for similar with their latest capture from the Premier League.
