‘Rolls-Royce’… Peter Crouch amazed by Tottenham player who’s played just twice this year
Peter Crouch has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven and expressed how frustrating it was to see him miss games due to injury.
Spurs have been hit with a ton of issues this season. Injuries, suspensions and players going away on international duty have affected them, which has been really frustrating. Van de Ven‘s absence was definitely a blow when he was out.

Peter Crouch says Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven is like a Rolls-Royce
Tottenham signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg last summer in a deal worth £43 million ().
Not many people had heard of the Dutch centre-half apart from the fact that he was one of the fastest defenders in the Bundesliga during his time there.
Ange Postecoglou made him his first-choice centre-half alongside Cristian Romero, and Van de Ven hit the ground running in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old was absolutely outstanding for Spurs in their first 10 games. In the 11th, he suffered a terrible hamstring injury, and that kept him out of action for over two months.
Peter Crouch had his say about Spurs’ injury issues this season and he pointed out that Van de Ven’s absence was a big blow. He even branded the Dutchman as a ‘Rolls-Royce’.
Speaking to , Crouch said: “It’s just frustrating to see the injuries, really. I think Van de Ven was like a Rolls-Royce, I thought he was an absolute class act, something that they really needed.
“Obviously, him getting injured was a big blow. Maddison, again, another one. Obviously, Bissouma going away and Son leaving as well, they are the only things that kind of, not derailed, they’re still doing really, really well.
“But it was just frustrating, really, (not) to see what they could’ve achieved. But yeah, they are all coming back now. I think the second half of the season they’ll be finishing strong.”

Van de Ven is an amazing defender
Tottenham struck gold with the signing of Micky van de Ven in the summer.
The Dutchman has all the attributes you’d want from a centre-back. He’s big, strong and incredibly quick. His positioning is great as well and the fact that he’s still only 22 means he will get even better in the coming years.
Tottenham fans love Van de Ven and rightly so. However, there’s still a lot more to come from him, and we’re sure Ange Postecoglou will push him to another level.
Van de Ven has played just twice in 2024 having returned from his injury just a few weeks ago. Spurs fans will be hoping he can stay fit until the end of the season.
