Rodri says signing Harry Kane would have helped Manchester City a lot
Manchester City ace Rodri has praised Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane.
What’s the story?
Speaking in an interview with , the Spaniard said signing the ace would have helped City a lot.
City were chasing the centre-forward for much of the summer. Pep Guardiola’s side had a bid worth a reported £100m rejected for Kane.
Meanwhile, the player himself pushed for a move on multiple occasions. First, Kane did an interview with Gary Neville hinting at wanting to depart Spurs, and then he reportedly returned to pre-season training late.
However, it was all in vain with Daniel Levy digging in his heels and preventing a move. In the end, the 28-year-old accepted his fate and released a statement confirming his stay in north London.
In his interview, Rodri seemed to swat away suggestions the northwest giants need a striker.
When talking about Kane and a new forward, Rodri said: “A player of the stature of helps a lot, but we have a team that has been able to win the Premier, which is almost like an internal Champions League, and you have little to change.
“The most valued thing there is the goal because there are very few players who can score more than 20 goals, but that does not guarantee anything either. We have other players like Ferran, for example, to play there.”
Manchester City will challenge for the title anyway
Signing Kane would have been the cherry on top of the cake for Manchester City.
But, with a squad as packed as City’s, it is hard to see how the club will not challenge for the title this season.
Such is the current side, the club can afford to go through the season without a recognised striker.
Their credentials were shown during the 5-0 win over Arsenal, when City tore through a big-six rival without breaking a sweat.
The reality of the situation is that the side will score a lot of goals. One of the only question marks is whether they can perform well against their title rivals.
