Robin Van Persie looks like being proven right about Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal are having an inconsistent time of things this season and striker Alexandre Lacazette is showing little sign of proving legendary forward Robin Van Persie wrong.

The Gunners have put in some fine performances this season. On the flipside, they’ve put in a number of disappointing displays, not least the horrible loss against Aston Villa last week.

Striker Lacazette is not really helping matters. The Frenchman looked to be the man early in the season, with three goals in the opening three games seemingly setting Lacazette’s stall out as the main threat at The Emirates.

However, since then, he’s yet to score, seemingly backing up the criticism that Van Persie had of the forward back in February. The Dutchman was critical of the Arsenal man .

“Lacazette needs two touches to get a shot in. He does well with the second touch but he needs an extra second. He knows what I mean,” Van Persie pointed out at the time.

But, as things stand, Lacazette is not doing himself any favours in proving the former Gunners star wrong.

Inconsistent and needs to do more

He’s not the only one in the Arsenal squad who needs to up his game a bit. Along with Lacazette, a number of players such as Willian, Nicolas Pepe, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang need to do more.

But Lacazette needs to be playing an important role. This Arsenal team needs a focal point in attack. Mikel Arteta will struggle to get the best out of his team without someone being that player.

Three goals is not horrendous. The issue comes in that Lacazette has been going missing in certain games. Indeed, Eddie Nketiah is now breathing firmly down his neck as well.

Time is still on his side this season but Lacazette, after being linked with a move in the summer, needs to start doing more to prove things both to himself, and ensure Van Persie can’t criticise him again.
