Roberts backs Tottenham star for wing-back role vs Brighton
Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to suggest that he would like to see Antonio Conte try Lucas Moura in the right wing-back role when Tottenham Hotspur return to action this weekend.
It was an incredibly busy deadline day for Spurs. Several players left the club. And, more encouragingly, two signings came in. Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur arrived from Juventus.
However, the deadline passed without Tottenham signing a new wing-back. Of course, they were heavily linked with Adama Traore. But the Wolves man ultimately moved to Barcelona.
Conte looks to have Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty to pick from for the foreseeable future. Neither has had the best time since joining the club.
Doherty received some credit for his cameo at Leicester recently. But it seems likely that a new wing-back will be one of the top targets for the summer. Tariq Lamptey has already been linked.
But Roberts has suggested another potential option. He backed Lucas to perhaps get the nod for Tottenham on Saturday…

Lucas Moura could tick a lot of boxes as Tottenham wing-back
Obviously, Conte may be wary of using Lucas as a wing-back for Tottenham. He has actually that position before during his career. And he is extremely important in the middle of the pitch.
Having said that, he has vast experience in wider roles. And he looks to potentially tick a lot of boxes.
Whenever the chips are down, he is often the one inspiring Tottenham with his energy, driving the side forward. So he would certainly have the drive to work tirelessly down the right flank.
As Roberts suggests, he has a lot of quality in the final third. But he also has the combative streak to contribute defensively. He is never afraid to get stuck in.
Roberts is not backing Lucas for a chance in a crucial Premier League game against Manchester City. In a game where Spurs should be looking to be on the front foot, surely it would not be the worst decision to have a look.
