Rodriguez, meanwhile, is out of favour under Zinedine Zidane, having made just 13 appearances this term, and claims that Real are “guaranteed” to seek a sale for him post-season.

The Colombia international cost Real £63million and was reported in March to have a £71million price tag (), but things have changed massively since then.

In wake of current events, which have dealt a huge financial blow to the football industry, reports have suggested a massively reduced price tag (£28million, according to ) or even a free transfer ().

However, Carlos is against the idea of Rodriguez being offloaded, telling : “James is a phenomenon. I have great affection for him.

“I ask for a little patience with him. When James comes in to play he does it very well.

“The most important thing is that he has confidence in himself, that he continues training as he is, the fans love him very much, he is a great player.”

Rodriguez is undoubtedly a talented player, once considered to be amongst the best young players in the world, and on his day he is unplayable.

Admittedly he may haven’t had the best time at Real, while Bayern opted not to make his loan deal permanent, and he’s had his fair share of over the past few years.

However, Arsenal still ought to take a chance if Los Blancos were willing to accept a bargain price  – he would be a high-quality marquee signing which would create a huge buzz around the Emirates Stadium.
