Robert Pires urged Arsene Wenger to sign newly-linked Arsenal target back in 2014

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract – six years after Robert Pires urged Arsene Wenger to land the German.

that 26-year-old Draxler is a target for the Gunners, with his future at PSG in doubt. If PSG are to receive a fee for the former Wolfsburg star, they are likely to have to sell him in the coming months.

Arsenal are likely to be after an attacking midfielder this summer, with doubts over the future of Mesut Ozil. The experienced German, who has partnered Draxler at international level, is also set to enter the final year of his contract.

Draxler has been continuously linked with Arsenal, but even three years before PSG signed Draxler for £36.5million in 2017, Invincibles legend Pires urged Wenger to bring the versatile midfielder to north London.

“Julian is a good player,” “He’s young and has a lot of potential for development. When I watch him play, I always think that he fits perfectly with Arsenal’s style of football.”

TBR’s view – Arsenal must heed Pires’ previous advice

Though his comments were from six years ago, Arsenal still need a player like Draxler just as much. Despite starting just 92 of his 137 PSG outings, Draxler has still scored 20 goals and created 32 more.

That kind of contribution is impressive. Given that he is likely to be available for smaller fee than the figure PSG paid for him, Arsenal have simply got to finally listen to Pires’ advice – and lure Draxler to The Emirates.
