Robert Pires predicts Arsenal clash against Villarreal tonight

Arsenal travel to Villarreal tonight for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final and Robert Pires has been predicting the clash to Spanish outlet

The Frenchman was fortunate enough to play for both clubs during his career. He spent six years in North London, before heading to Spain in 2006.

Pires was a fan favourite during his time in the Premier League and helped Arsenal to four trophies.

He does expect the La Liga outfit to be slight favourites tonight, however, thinking Villarreal could have the edge based on their manager.

Unai Emery is a serial winner of the Europa League and will plot the downfall of his former club tonight.

Pires expects a tough game for the Gunners in Spain when the two teams lock horns later this evening.

“Seeing two of my former clubs face each other in a semi-final is something special.

“It’s difficult to give a favourite. I think it’s 50-50. I think Villarreal have an advantage because they have Emery, a coach who has done well in that competition.

“What I like most about Villarreal is that it’s a team that has a clear idea, that they like to play good football. It’s what the people like.

“Everyone knows that if you’re going to see Villarreal, you’re going to see a good team, a team with good players and one which will complicate things for Arsenal./p>

TBR View: Tough night expected for Arsenal

Tonight’s opponents are seventh in La Liga and Emery looks to be getting it right at the club.

Things haven’t been great for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta but there is hope that he can get it right eventually.

Winning the Europa League would probably save the club’s season and a return to the Champions League would be massive.

The Gunners go into the game on the back of two disappointing results in the Premier League and Arsenal must now dig deep.

Signing players is a must in the summer and having Champions League football on offer could make the Emirates Stadium an attractive option for players once again.
