Robbie Savage says Chelsea will never win the Premier League if they keep starting £25m player
Chelsea are making steady progress under Enzo Maresca.
After ten games of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, the Blues were ꦍ11th with just 12 points – however, after ten games of this season, the west Londoners are fourth with 18 points.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
4 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 20 | 12 | 8 | 18 |
Key:
Position 1 – 4 : Champions LeaguePosition 5 : UEFA Europa League
Position 18 – 20 : Relegation
There is – however – still a long way to go until Chelsea can think about competing for the Premier League title once again, with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool still lightyears ahead in terms of having a settled, productiveﷺ environment.
If Todd Boehly can allow Enzo Maresca and the Italian’s young squad the time to all gel together, a title charge is certainly possible in the near future, although Robbie Savage believes Chelsea must bin Robert Sanchez to ha🍌ve any chance of winning a first Premi෴er League title since 2017.
Robbie Savage thinks Robert Sanchez is simply not good enough
Speaking on after Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Chelsea, Savage said: “I’m not sure about the Chelsea goalkeeper. Iꦍt’s anothe൲r error today. I think to win titles you need a top, top goalkeeper.
“Is he in that bracket? He is a seven out of 10. I don’t t♍hink you wi✨n the title with a seven out of 10 goalkeeper.”

We strongly agree.
Sanchez had slipped to third choice at Brighton behind Bart Verbruggen and Jason Steele before Chelsea strang🌠ely paid for his🔯 signature back in August 2023.
Savage had already questioned Sanchez for his chaotic display in the 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield in October, wh൩ere the Spaniard was hesitant to come off his line before Curtis Jones poked home the winner.
The Chelsea No.1 was at it again on Sunday, foolishly tripping Rasmus Hojlund to concede a penalty, des꧃pite the fact Manchester United🐟’s No.9 was running away from goal and seemed likely to dribble the ball out of play.
Chelsea must not sign another goalkeeper
Hopefully, Chelsea look within rather than s🍨ign another goalkeeper to replace Sanchez, as the Blues have already invested millions in some precocious glovesmen under Boehly.
🦩For example, Chelsea spent £20.7m to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal back in July 2024, before spending £17m to sign Mike Penders from Ge🅘nk just one month later.

Going back even further, Chelsea handed New England♚ Revolution £14m for Djordje Petrovic in August 2023.
That goes without mentioning the £71m man Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently on loan at Bournemouth, so if Chelsea go out and spend millions t💜o replace Sanchez, it would be utter madness – while it would also send a terrible message to the young goalkeeping prospects who are out on loan away from Stamford Bridge.
