Celtic’s apparent transfer interest in Lawrence Shankland is no secret. The talented striker has proven himself an absolute goal-machine in Scotland’s lower leagues, first with Ayr United and now with Dundee United.
The 24-year-old has scored 28 goals in 33 games this season with the Tangerines, following on from a 34-goal season with Ayr last.
His form has even earned a Scotland call-up, with Shankland scoring his first international goal on his second cap against San Marino.

in January, Celtic chief scout Tosh McKinlay and recruitment chief Nick Hammond have both watched Shankland in action. However, a January move was never on the cards.
But Celtic will surely be ready to rival a whole host of other teams when it comes to Shankland’s signature this summer.
Now, his manager at Tannadice, Robbie Neilson, has been discussing the future for Shankland Clearly, Neilson is of the hope that Shankland will stick around.
“I would like to sign Lawrence up on a longer contract but you have to be a realist as well.
“Will the financial situation in football help us keep him? Possibly but nobody really knows at the moment.
“The game is going to take a hit everywhere but until it settles down we won’t know where people are financially. People will always want to buy goalscorers so there will be interest in him but it all depends on what level.
“It will depend on what happens down south because that’s where he will likely go. There will be interest in him but it all depends whether it’s from the right clubs or not.”
Of course, the financial implications of the current global health crisis could have a major impact on the spending patterns of teams through Scotland and beyond.
It also sounds as if Neilson believes Shankland will be heading south of the border in the summer, which could prove an issue for Celtic’s potential plans.
But if Celtic end up losing their star striker Odsonne Edouard this summer then there will be plenty of money to spend on luring Shankland, who has been valued at £3 million-plus this summer , to Parkhead.
