Rob Holding sends heartfelt Instagram message to Shkodran Mustafi after Arsenal exit

Shkodran Mustafi has finally left Arsenal after being linked with an exit from the club for a number of windows – joining German side Schalke on a free transfer and Rob Holding has responded on Instagram.

Mustafi, 28, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2016 for a whopping £35million and has since played 151 times for the North London club. But his form has deteriorated over the last 12 months, after a move suited all parties.

The Germany World Cup winner has managed just 43 minutes of Premier League football this season – with the improved form of Holding and the signings of Gabriel and Pablo Mari pushing Mustafi down the pecking order.

Mustafi has entered the final six months of his contract but like they have with Mesut Ozil, Arsenal have decided to cancel Mustafi’s current deal. It allows him to move to Schalke for nothing, and has seen Liverpool complete a deal.

Indeed, the move allows Liverpool to sign Turkey international Ozan Kabak on a loan-to-buy deal. But for Arsenal, it was about getting Mustafi off the books. With Ozil and Sokratis departing, Arsenal have shaved their wage budget.

Holding reacted to the news that Mustafi has left the club with two touching posts on his Instagram story.
