Rio Ferdinand says he’d sell Newcastle star Saint-Maximin and sign Zaha

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that if he was Newcastle United‘s manager, he’d sell Allan Saint-Maximin and sign Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha in his place.

The Ivorian will be a free agent at the end of this season. It doesn’t look like he’ll sign a new Palace deal before exploring his options next summer, and there could be plenty of clubs interested in his services.

Rio Ferdinand says he’d sell Newcastle star Saint-Maximin and sign Wilfried Zaha

In a yesterday, Ferdinand and his pals discussed where Zaha could end up when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

The 29-year-old, by Alan Brazil on , has been incredible for Palace over the years. He is absolutely adored by the club’s fans, but everybody knows he has been dreaming of a big move away from Selhurst Park for a while now.

When he becomes a free agent next summer, Zaha could finally get his wish, and Ferdinand thinks Newcastle should go and sign him – possibly at the expense of Saint-Maximin.

When asked if Newcastle should sign Zaha, the Manchester United legend said: “Yes! All day.

“If I’m Newcastle, I’d buy him straight up. I’ll take him and I’d sell Saint-Maximin. Or I’d have them both. He scores more than Saint-Maximin.

“I think Wilfried Zaha at Newcastle would be a problem.”

Newcastle have been on fire this season.

The Magpies are currently third in the Premier League table and also boast the joint-best defensive record in the top flight. They’ve been magnificent, and if they can keep this up, they could well finish in one of the European places.

Zaha on a free transfer would be an incredible signing. He’s almost unstoppable on his day – similar to Saint-Maximin in a way – and he’d be a fine addition to this Magpies side.

However, whether Eddie Howe would be interested in signing him remains to be seen.
