Rio Ferdinand says he loves Gabriel Martinelli after Arsenal beat Liverpool

Rio Ferdinand has told that he loves Gabriel Martinelli, while he shared how Mikel Arteta once told him that the Arsenal star has a bit of Luis Suarez about him.

Martinelli is one of the in-form players in the Premier League so far this season. The Brazilian has been playing the best football of his Gunners career in the early stages of the campaign.

The 21-year-old has scored four goals and provided two assists for Mikel Arteta’s side. And he was absolutely outstanding on Sunday as Arsenal beat Liverpool at the Emirates.

The Gunners showed why they may well be in the Premier League title conversation this season with the win. Certainly, it seemed that Liverpool were completely unable to deal with Martinelli.

Trent Alexander-Arnold could not cope with the forward for either of Arsenal’s first two goals. He danced past the right-back with ease for the second goal, sending the ball across the box to Bukayo Saka.

Martinelli has had a turbulent time for Arsenal. He made an unbelievable start to life at the Emirates. But a long-term injury halted his development. And Mikel Arteta took his time to really put him back into the fold.

Martinelli is most definitely a key man for Arsenal once again. And Ferdinand has shared how Arteta was always confident about just how talented the youngster is.

“I love Martinelli. Love him,” . “I saw Arteta a couple of years ago, at Bournemouth away. And Martinelli was just coming through, and I said: ‘what’s he like because he looks good to me, I like the look of this kid’. And he went: ‘he’s going to be special’. I said: ‘what player, who’s he like?’ He said there’s a bit of Suarez in there.

“That’s enough for me. He’s going to be a problem. He’s a bad player.”

What is so exciting about Arsenal now is that Martinelli is far from being the only special player in the ranks. Saka scored twice against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus has proved to be the perfect addition to the attack.

And there have been amazing performances all across the pitch since the start of the season.

What is frightening is that Martinelli, Saka and William Saliba are 21. Martin Odegaard is just 23. In fact, of the nine players who have started at least eight league games, only one is older than 25.

This is an incredibly exciting period for Arsenal. It is scary to think of the level they could potentially reach.
