Rio Ferdinand names four Arsenal players Arteta must build around
Rio Ferdinand the four Arsenal players Mikel Arteta must build around next season after their difficult campaign – labelling three their best performers this term.
The Gunners have endured an incredibly disappointing season. They are now simply going through the motions in the final Premier League games after being knocked out of the Europa League last week.

The pressure is certainly piling on Arteta. It is arguably becoming increasingly difficult to argue that the club are moving in the right direction under the Spaniard.
But there have been a handful of positives from the Gunners over the course of the campaign. Emile Smith Rowe has emerged as a real star of the future after getting a first prolonged run in the side around the turn of the year.

And Ferdinand picked out Smith Rowe as one of the few players who can hold his head up high after this season.
“The only thing to come out for Arsenal: ESR, Saka, Tierney this season. They’ve been top. They’ve been the best players, and that’s what he’s got to build around going forward,” .
“Even Joe Willock’s gone on loan to Newcastle and kept them up, he’s got to come back into the frame surely after that little spell he’s had there. Those guys are who Arsenal’s got to build around.”
TBR View: Arsenal do have a group of young players to be excited about – but they can’t do it on their own
It does appear that Arsenal do have a good group of young players. As well as the quartet Ferdinand mentioned, they also have players such as Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun to get excited about.
Of course, it is asking a lot for the youngsters to take Arsenal back up the table. But they do offer the Gunners the best opportunity to take a positive out of what has largely been a horrible season.
